Upcoming Elections

Elections for Gloucestershire County Council are scheduled for Thursday, 1 May 2025. The Notice of Election is published in the links below.

Registering to Vote

To participate in upcoming elections, you must be registered to vote. The deadline to register for the 1 May 2025 elections is 11:59 pm on Friday, 11 April 2025.

If you’re unsure about your registration status, you can check by contacting the Stroud District Council’s Electoral Services. Remember, being registered for Council Tax does not automatically register you to vote.

Ways to Vote

  • In Person: Polling stations will be open from 7 am to 10 pm on election day. You’ll receive a poll card before the election informing you of your designated polling station. Please note, you may need to show photo ID when voting in person.
  • By Post: If you prefer to vote by post, apply online at www.gov.uk/apply-postal-vote. The deadline to apply for a postal vote for the 1 May 2025 elections is 5 pm on Monday, 14 April 2025.
  • By Proxy: To appoint someone to vote on your behalf, apply for a proxy vote at www.gov.uk/apply-proxy-vote. The deadline for proxy vote applications is 5 pm on Monday, 21 April 2025.

Voter ID Requirements

For certain elections, you may need to present photo identification when voting in person. Acceptable forms of ID include passports, driving licences, and specific voter ID cards. For a comprehensive list of acceptable IDs and information on how to obtain a free Voter Authority Certificate if you don’t have suitable ID, visit www.gov.uk/how-to-vote.

Overseas Voters

British citizens living abroad who have previously lived in or were registered to vote in the UK can register as overseas voters. Recent changes have removed the 15-year limit, allowing more expatriates to vote. For details and to register, visit www.gov.uk/register-to-vote.
